Sonic Team's Yuji Naka - GameCube
Question: Tell us why the GameCube is appealing to Sonic Team.
Yuji Naka: The gaming industry is in a depressed state, but I think the GameCube will trigger a resurgence of players. Nintendo is focusing on fun original software with multiplayer compatibility, and I think people will be delighted with the GameCube. In terms of Sega software, Super Monkey Ball will be available at launch. We believe the GameCube could trigger an industry wide turnaround, and we're proud to be a part of it.
Question: Is it easy to create GameCube games?
Yuji Naka: If today's showing is any indication, we've been able to transplant Sonic Adventure 2 and Phantasy Star Online easily to the GameCube. The short translation time is allowing us to focus on adding new elements to both games.

Miyamoto Talks About Other Mario Titles
Mario Sunshine - Summer 2002
"I'd rather not explain about the new Mario, as I've said. I deliberately chose images that will not reveal a lot about the game so that you will not know its secrets. But because we have limited these things, I think you are wondering what is so interesting about the game. One thing for sure is that it's called Mario Sunshine -- and it having that name, we really have to sell it during the summer time [laughs]. "Mario is shouldering on his back some mysterious gadget - some machine. Of course, it contains a secret. We are going to make the right progress for the game and please look forward to it."
100 Marios
"So many projects and so many experiments are being carried out at Nintendo. For example, the 100 Marios or 128 Marios -- some of the technology there has already been integrated into Pikmin. And having said that, some other experiments are still going on because we are always looking two or three years in advance, so maybe sometime later we will show some part of 100 Marios."
Marionette
"And as for Marionette, it is still under development. It is not a Mario game, but an actual Marionette game utilizing a puppet. I am hoping to make something both complicated and simple at the same time, which is kind of a contradiction. But already we are experimenting. And once again, sometime in the future we may be able to show you something on it."

Nintendo Reveals Mario Sunshine And A New Zelda Game
Mario Sunshine, the latest in a long line of Super Mario games has eye-catching optical features such as sunlight refracting on camera lenses and reflecting off a rippling surface of water. Crisp and cartoon-like colors, however, remind people that the game is played in a world of fantasy, not by physical laws. The true sequel to Mario 64 is here...
In the latest incarnation of the Legend of Zelda series, Nintendo has used advanced technology to make its characters more lovable and emotional rather than just aiming for realism. Miyamoto has re-invented Zelda, to bring us a unique 3D cartoon world.
The Legend of Zelda and Mario Sunshine will both ship in 2002 for Nintendo GameCube.
Nintendo of America will ship 700,000 GameCube systems on Sunday, November 18th, right before Thanksgiving. An additional 400,000 consoles will be shipped by mid December. The GameCube will carry a suggested retail price of $195.95. GameCube games will carry a suggested retail price of $49.95. Indigo and black will be the only GameCube colors for the US launch.

EA talks about Madden 2002 - GameCube
Nintendo recently interviewed Jason Barnes, assistant producer of Madden NFL 2002 for the GameCube.
Nintendo: Have you done anything special with the crowd this year?
Barnes: The crowd animations are more responsive to action on the field. One of the coolest features is the attendance of the crowd is based off of how well your team is doing during a season.
Nintendo: What do you think the coolest feature is in Madden 2002?
Barnes: That is tough a question. We added a lot gameplay features and new game modes... The two-minute drill is very cool. As far as gameplay goes, we added tons of defensive moves like swats and defensive linemen moves.
Nintendo: How many frames per second does Madden 2002 run at?
Barnes: Madden on the GameCube runs at 60 frames per second.
Nintendo: How much play-by-play variety will the announcers have in Madden 2002?
Barnes: The announcing has been improved a lot in 2002. Madden has a ton of different phases for similar plays. We even have a few sayings for the Tur-ducken, the award given out by Madden in the Thanksgiving game. Madden does not take personal shots at the players, but he will question your play-calling if you go for it on 4th and long when you should be punting.
Nintendo: Are there cheerleaders in Madden 2002?
Barnes: We have cheerleaders on the sidelines and during the player introductions. Also, there are cheerleader cards for each team.
Nintendo: What one thing do you think makes Madden 2002 better than other football games?
Barnes: Gameplay and depth. The gameplay has been improved greatly from last year. Our Franchise mode has the expansion draft so you can play as the Texans in year 2 or your own Created Team. Graphically, the player faces are really impressive this year, the artist here did an incredible job.
